Most dogs are full of energy and enthusiasm, especially young pups. They love to go on walks and play with their owners, it is very rarely you’ll see a dog who isn’t expressing joy towards their master. It can be hard to recognize when they are sick, dogs are great at masking their true feelings by pretending everything is fine. Here are some signs and symptoms to look out for when examining your dog.

Change in Their Behavior

Although it can be difficult to spot when your dog is sick, one of the most obvious signs to look out for is their behavior. If your dog likes to go on walks and is generally very playful, you should be able to see when their behavior has changed, and they don’t seem themselves.

If your dog is acting strange, they are probably trying to tell you something. Your family pet cannot tell you when they’ve a sore stomach or a problem with their tooth, they need your assistance in recognizing when there is something amiss. If your dog is seriously ill, it is important to take them to a vet immediately. If you don’t pet insurance and your dog needs extensive medical treatment or surgery, you could end up paying a lot of money.

Noticing signs of distress is important, if your dog displays any of these signs or symptoms, have them checked as soon as possible.

  • Irritability
  • Lethargy
  • Agitation
  • Attention Seeking More Than Normal

Difficulty Breathing

Some dogs have smaller snouts than others and they sometimes struggle with their breathing during exercise. Although this isn’t a big problem, you should take it easy on them when walking or playing frisbee. If you notice your dog has trouble breathing even when walking up the stairs, take these signs very seriously. If your hound has a honking cough, noisy breathing or even a cough which disturbs their sleep, seek medical attention immediately. Signs of respiratory disease range from the obvious to the subtle.

Stomach Issues

A healthy diet is essential to the overall health of any pet. It’s important to feed your pets high quality and nutritious food to make sure they have a long, happy and healthy life. Consider looking into Ultimate Pet Nutrition for your furry loved ones to see what they offer.

Thats being said, every pet has trouble with their stomach from time to time, some dogs vomit now and again while others have problems going to the toilet. These problems usually emanate from eating too many sweet snacks or chewing on something pretty disgusting off the ground.  You should visit a veterinarian if the issue persists for longer than 24 hours coupled with a loss of appetite and lethargy.

Obvious Pain

You’ll find a lot of dogs tend to suffer in silence than crying out in pain when something is wrong. If you notice them struggling to eat, sleep or walk, examine them closely and look for any signs of injury or inflammation. They may try guard body parts when you approach them.

A healthy dog will sleep well, have a good appetite, be playful and enjoy going for walks every day. A family pet who doesn’t feel well may show signs of distress or they may suffer in silence. As a pet owner, it is your duty to care for them and take them to the vet when they need medical attention. Treat your pets with a subscription box from petboxsubs.com.
