Men: How Often Should You Wash Your Hair?

It has been going on for years. Men are either washing their hair too much or not enough. Every guy has a different type of hair, but they should all follow the same rule when it comes to washing their hair.

MenIf you wash your hair too often, your scalp will produce more sebum, which is oil produced from the sebaceous gland that helps protect your scalp and hair. Shampooing too much will dry out your scalp and make your scalp work extra hard to try to protect it by producing even more oil. This is a huge disadvantage to washing your hair every single day. Plus, if you have thin air, the more oil makes your hair look thinner.

But you also don’t want to wash your hair just every other week or even just once a week either. When you don’t wash your hair enough, it will appear super dirty and even start to smell. No guy wants that because it is super unattractive.

So how often should guys actually wash their hair? Two times a week is ideal. After about a month of washing your hair twice a week, your scalp will adjust and not produce as much oil. Of course if you work out, washing your hair only twice a week might sound like a challenge. Well in between washings, rinse your hair with warm water and use a light conditioner. Conditioner helps break up oil and sweat. You can also use baking soda and that will help cleanse and deodorize the scalp. If you are looking to add shine, rinse hair with a little bit of apple cider vinegar.

When you do wash your hair, make sure to use conditioner after you shampoo. Conditioner helps balance out the oil in your hair and moisturizes it, so it is really useful when your hair is dry, curly, course or color-treated.

A lot of men use dandruff shampoo and that is a big mistake. Cheap dandruff shampoo can actually cause more harm than good. It makes the scalp dryer and it is usually made with harsh ingredients that damage the scalp and hair. To avoid having to use dandruff shampoo, don’t wash your hair as much and when you do, use a mild shampoo.
