5 Men’s Fashion Faux Pas To Avoid in 2014

Some men have a knack for nailing their fashion choices – some unfortunately find it more of a struggle. When it comes to men’s fashion, it’s all well and good to push the boundaries if that’s your attitude, but there are definitely some fashion statements that are best left… unstated. Here’s a guide to 5 fashion faux pas you should not include as part of your look.

Upturned Collarsfashion no-nos for men

This is a fashion faux pas that’s mainly committed by men who think it exudes class. We’ve all seen the preppy rich boys in movies and television that walk around with their Ralph Lauren’s and men’s dress shirts with the collar pointing upward. Well, nice dress shirts such as ones from men’s retailers like Politix shouldn’t have their collar up – they should be down, and kept smooth. Otherwise you might look like a snob… not the most desirable of impressions.

A Combination Of Suspenders And Belts

Suspenders are old time cool (for the right occasion). So is a nice belt – perfect for a smart casual situation on some black pants. Wearing them both? Well, it’s not so much unnecessary as pointless. Belts and suspenders serve the same purpose – to hold the pants up. So, unless you’ve got really baggy trousers, it’s best to avoid this accessories combo. Not only does it look too busy accessories-wise, it’s just silly!

V Neck Shirts That Dip A Tad Too Low

There’s nothing wrong with a nice V neck t-shirt – it goes well under jackets, cardigans or as is with a pair of jeans or shorts on a hot day. But, keep an eye on the, uh, ‘plunge’ of the V neck – too low is a major faux pas, no matter how large your pectoral muscles are! It’s a very awkward cut of shirt that’s best left avoided, especially if you are fortunate in the muscle department. If you want to show off the benefits of your work outs, try a higher cut, fitted shirt – it looks one hundred times less uncomfortable, and has none of the awkwardness.

Pants With A Dropped Crotch

Lord knows how this cut of pant became fashionable. The drop crotched pant is exactly how it sounds – the crotch sits somewhere just above the knees, rather than the usual higher spot, giving the impression of an adult diaper with legs. The drop crotched pant is near impossible to pull off, and just looks really, really awkward – like you’re trying to smuggle something through security in your trousers! Straight-legged pants are always a safe bet, unless you need the extra room to… breathe? Dropped crotches also makes you look about a foot shorter than you really are – that’s definitely an impression you DON’T want to make!

Singlets

Goes without saying really – leave the singlet’s for bedtime or for the gym (but no ‘thinlets’ or ‘stringlets’, ever). If it’s really hot, go with a nice t-shirt instead. Trust us on this one.

Your style should be your own, and you should always feel comfortable in expressing yourself through the clothes that you wear. However there are some impressions you definitely don’t want to express. Avoid these faux pas at all costs, lest you might attract some funny stares from passers-by.
