Let’s all just take a minute to appreciate what has grown to become Netflix’s stellar line of original programming. It’s pretty damn good.

I awoke to the happy news that the next series to come through the pipes will be a cartoon about a drunk horse voiced by Will Arnett – BoJack Horseman. The promising cast also includes Aaron Paul and Amy Sedaris, giving popular Archer’s impressive vocal talent a bona fide run for its money. The series is reportedly about Will Arnett’s character attempting to reclaim his acting career long after his popular sitcom Horsin’ Around has ended. Oh sweet, sweet irreverence.

Netflix first made waves as an original programming option when they revived the long dead Arrested Development, news that brought about widespread elation among a cult fan base when it initially broke. And while that most recent incarnation of the Bluth family is certainly pockmarked, this proved to be an exceptional ‘get’ for Netflix going forward.

The company really made the leap to respectable programming with their production of House of Cards, starring the always masterful Kevin Spacey. A dark political thriller, the quality of which surprised just about everyone, newly minted fans are now anxiously awaiting the 2014 return.

Yet it was Orange Is the New Black really helped put Netflix original programming on the map. Loosely based off the true life experience of Piper Kerman, this fast moving series brought a cavalcade of captivating of appealing characters to our living rooms earlier in 2013. Television is radically changing.

Netflix actually understands the average digital consumer and their ravenous appetite for quality programming, releasing full seasons the first day. Mass consumption is the thing these days, binge watching isn’t going anywhere.

We’re not getting paid by Netflix yet, but we probably deserve a box set of something at this point.
